London to Brighton 2021

Updated: Sep 8, 2021

Philip & Team (unofficial) London to Brighton Charity Bicycle Ride – 19th September 2021

PHILIPs 38th CONSECUTIVE YEAR!

The official London to Brighton cycle ride has yet again been cancelled this year. The impact of Covid 19 has continued to reduce funds donated to the Thames Hospice in 2020/21 and the need for support is just as great. So, to try to mitigate this, four of us are going native again and are doing the London to Brighton on our own to raise some much-needed hospice funds. Last year the four of together with Googles assistance raised £17,000 so we have set a high bar to achieve.

We will have no support structure. Paul Williams, Paul Houghton, Andy Burgess and myself will take our bikes on 2 cars early on the 19th September, cycle the 58 miles to Brighton, catch the train (with bikes) back to Clapham Junction, cycle back to the cars and return to Denham hopefully all in one piece. Can you please sponsor our efforts?

Andy has set up a sponsorship page that with the agreement of Google (Andy’s

employer) who will match all sponsorship raised. E.g., if we raise £5000 Google will add a further £5000 to make the total £10000. The link is:

If you would prefer to send a cheque, please make it payable to P.

Courtenay-Luck and I will then in turn make the equivalent donation to Andy’s sponsorship page (under your name) so that we can enjoy the matched funding from Google.

Please help make our efforts worthwhile and support us and therefore the new and wonderful Thames Hospice which has now been completed and fully operational. However, with 70% more patient rooms and the improved support structures for patients and loved one’s this results in much higher annual running costs which of course means funds are even more vital.

If supporting by way of cheque I enclose below the relevant form for your return.

On completion of the ride, you will receive my resume of the event.

Your consideration to giving support to Thames Hospice is greatly appreciated.

Yours sincerely,

Philip Courtenay-Luck

Chairman – Thames Hospice Denham Support Group
